The Honest Year-in-Review Post

ROLE: You are a social media writer for local businesses. You know most year-end recaps are either a humble-brag highlight reel or a vague "thank you for an amazing year!!" that nobody remembers. The ones people actually like have specific numbers, one honest admission, and a thank-you that sounds like a person wrote it. Your job: write that post using only what I give you. INPUTS (fill in what you know; leave a blank empty rather than guess): - Business: {business} (e.g., Whitestone Brewery, a craft brewery and taproom at 401 E Whitestone Blvd in Cedar Park, TX) - Three real numbers from this year (customers served, items made, events held, years open, etc.): {numbers} - Best moments or things we launched: {highlights} - One thing that didn't go to plan, in a sentence (or "skip"): {miss} - What our customers actually did that helped (showed up to events, sent referrals, left reviews, brought friends): {customer help} - One thing coming next year that's already real: {next year} - Where we'll post (Facebook, Instagram, LinkedIn, Google Business): {platforms} - Our voice in three words: {voice} PROCESS: 1. Hook Options: 3 opening lines under 15 words each. No "What a year!" and no "We can't believe it's already December." 2. Main Post (120 to 200 words): the hook, then the three numbers in plain language (one line each, with a little context so they mean something), one highlight, the honest miss told in one or two sentences with what we learned (skip it if {miss} is "skip"), the thank-you tied to {customer help}, and one line about {next year}. End with a question that invites people to share their own favorite moment. 3. Carousel Outline: 5 slides, each with a headline under 8 words and a one-line caption. 4. Short Version: under 300 characters for Google Business or X. 5. Platform Notes: one line per platform in {platforms} on what to change (length, hashtags, tone). OUTPUT FORMAT: Headings exactly: Hook Options, Main Post, Carousel Outline, Short Version, Platform Notes. QUALITY CHECKS (run before answering): - Every number, launch and plan comes from my inputs. Never round up, invent a milestone or promise a date I didn't give you. - If {next year} is empty, write (add one real plan for next year) instead of making one up. - The honest miss is about the business, never blames customers, staff or another business by name. - Max one exclamation point in the whole main post. Max 3 hashtags.

Tip: fill in the {brackets}

Swap every highlighted bit for your real details before you paste. The more specific you are, the less generic the answer.

What it does

Writes a year-in-review post for Facebook, Instagram and LinkedIn from your real numbers and moments: a hook, three specific highlights, one thing that didn't go to plan, a thank-you that names what customers actually did, and a tease for next year. Includes a carousel outline and a short version for Google Business.

When to use it

Post between Mon, Dec 28 and Thu, Dec 31, 2026, when people are scrolling and nostalgic. Gather your numbers by Dec 21 so you're not digging through receipts on Christmas Eve.

Example result

Example inputs (the brewery's name, address, 20-plus taps, Music Bingo nights, Oct 17 Oktoberfest, HopWater, $100 Pub Club and the upcoming trivia nights and craft sodas come from Whitestone Brewery's own website; the other numbers are made up for this test, and the "didn't go to plan" line is left blank on purpose so the example doesn't put words in the brewery's mouth): - Business: Whitestone Brewery, craft brewery and taproom, 401 E Whitestone Blvd, Ste A-108, Cedar Park, TX - Numbers: 20+ beers on tap; 24 Music Bingo nights (sample); 1,200 crowlers filled (sample) - Highlights: Oktoberfest on Oct 17 with a stein-holding contest against the staff; Texas HopWater - Miss: (add one thing that didn't go to plan, or write "skip") - Customer help: showing up for Music Bingo, bringing the dogs to the patio, joining the Pub Club - Next year: trivia nights on Wednesdays; a new line of prebiotic craft sodas - Platforms: Facebook, Instagram - Voice: friendly, local, a little nerdy about beer Example output (from a test run of the prompt above, trimmed): Hook Options 1. 24 bingo nights, 1,200 crowlers and one very tired stein arm. 2. Our year in Cedar Park, by the numbers (and one confession). 3. Before we flip the calendar, a quick thank-you with receipts. Main Post 24 bingo nights, 1,200 crowlers and one very tired stein arm. Here's our year at Whitestone Brewery: - 20+ beers on tap, which is a lot of decisions for a Tuesday. - 24 Music Bingo nights, 2nd and 4th Fridays, rain or shine. - 1,200 crowlers filled and carried home to couches all over Cedar Park. Oktoberfest on Oct 17 was the highlight, mostly because the staff got beat in the stein-holding contest. (add one thing that didn't go to plan, and what you learned) Thank you for showing up on bingo nights, bringing your dogs to the patio and joining the Pub Club. You're the reason a small brewery works. Next year: Wednesday trivia and our new prebiotic craft sodas. What was your favorite night here this year? Carousel Outline 1. Our year, by the numbers / A quick thank-you before 2027. 2. 20+ taps / Something for the Kölsch crowd and the IPA crowd. 3. 24 bingo nights / Every 2nd and 4th Friday. 4. Oktoberfest / The staff lost. Graciously. 5. Coming next year / Trivia Wednesdays and craft sodas. Short Version 24 bingo nights, 1,200 crowlers and one Oktoberfest the staff will never live down. Thanks for a great year, Cedar Park. Trivia Wednesdays are coming. Illustrative "didn't go to plan" line (not about any real business): "We launched a Monday lunch special in spring and nobody came. Turns out Mondays are for staying home. Lesson learned." Note: this example shows what the prompt produces. Whitestone Brewery's address, taps, events and upcoming plans are from its website; the bingo and crowler counts and the contest result are test samples, not the brewery's real figures.

FAQ

Do I really have to admit something went wrong?

No. Type skip and the prompt leaves it out. But one honest miss is usually the line people remember, and it beats a fourth humble-brag.

What if my numbers aren't that impressive?

Use them anyway. The prompt adds a little context so 24 events or 300 orders actually mean something, and it never rounds up or invents a milestone for you.
